Here he is, the piggie from this post. He’s looking a bit less dubious this time, I think. Down to only two medications, now!
Thank you so much to everyone who offered their well-wishes, positive thoughts, and prayers for our sick guinea pig this week. I can’t thank you all enough, the outpouring of support was nearly overwhelming.
As requested, here is an update: His pneumonia had cleared up according to the most recent vet check, and the bloat had moved further down his belly, suggesting that he would be expelling the excess gas soon. That was a few days ago.
Right now he is finishing the last few days of his antibiotic and motility medication. His appetite and interest in drinking is unfortunately still not where we would like it to be, and so we are still giving him Critical Care and hand-feeding him water to supplement his diet. He eats his fresh vegetables and hay with more regularity, but has not yet fully recovered his interest in his pellets. He seems to be passing more normal-looking stool now, which we see as a very positive sign for him returning to gastro-intestinal normalcy. However, if he doesn’t return to eating his food like he should, he may need to go back to the vet for blood work. We’re hoping he gets back in his routine before that’s necessary, of course.
Thank you again so much to everyone who has been so kind. I am quite new to tumblr, and it was so humbling and so heartening to have such kind sentiments from people who don’t even know me or this little piggy. I’ve made sure to tell him about all the internet people who wished him well.
